With all of the talk that has been surrounding the NBA offseason, not much attention has been directed to trades. Especially regarding Rudy Gay. With the departure of Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City found themselves to be in the spotlight this off season.



Rudy Gay to Thunder?





Thunder has also traded with Orlando Magic for PF Serge Ibaka in return for PF Ersan Ilyasova, SG Victor Oladipo, and 2016 first round #11 pick Domantas Sabonis, who plays power forward as well. This trade seemed like a steal for Thunder and one that would nearly guarantee a return from Kevin Durant. Yet, that was not enough. The way it stands now, Thunder does not have a very reliable player at small forward position. But with the addition of 29-year-old Rudy Gay, that would most certainly change.




In 2015-16, Rudy Gay averaged 17.2 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per page and 1.7 assists per game. Sacramento Kings have recently put out Rudy Gay, Ben McLemore, and Kosta Koufos up for trade. And with the recent addition of G Arron Afflalo, G Garrett Temple, F Matt Barnes and F Anthony Tolliver it does not seem like Gay, McLemore, and Koufos will return for next season.


Rudy Gay currently has a player option contract for the 2017-18 season. This might be the reason why Oklahoma City Thunder is not rushing to offer a trade deal.




Thunder is in the process of rebuilding, so offering draft picks for a player that will most likely stay for one year may not be a good idea. After picking up Victor Oladipo, Thunder has five shooting guards, including free agent Dion Waiters. The problem is, Sacramento Kings are not lacking any players in the shooting guard position. If Thunder decides to risk it and pick up Rudy Gay in return for draft picks, they will then be a strong contender in the West.
